Care of Cut Flowers
We all want our gift of flowers to look as best as possible for as long as possible. When receiving flowers as a gift, it is recommended that you immediately cut 10 to 20mm off the stems at a 45-degree angle using a sharp knife.
To keep flowers fresh. Dissolve 3 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons white vinegar per quart (liter) of warm water. When you fill the vase, make sure the stems are covered by 70 to 100mm of the prepared water.
It is recommended to remove all lower leaves to ensure none are left submerged in the vase water.
Every 3 or 4 days or earlier if the flowers show dullness, cut the flower stems on an angle again with a sharp knife. Never use a dull cutter or scissors as it will damage the stem, enabling the flower to take up any water.
Add water to the vase containing the flower arrangement every day and it’s important to not place the flowers in direct Sunlight.
Glass vases are an ideal choice for showing flowers as the water level can be seen easily, and the glass can be kept clean with relative ease.
Never mix fresh flowers with older flower water, as fresh flowers will be poisoned by stale water and bacteria contained within it.
To clean leaves, use a soft washcloth with a small amount of warm water and mild soap to gently rub the tops and undersides of the leaves. This will remove any grime and keep any pests from making their home on them.
If wanting to shine leafs, using a proprietary leaf shine product is recommended. Apply using correct distance and spray very thinly in accordance with the recommended method of application advised by the manufacturer.
Some flowers will continue to grow and open up further in the vase. This needs to be considered when making an arrangement, as that can disturb the final design look of the arrangement. The opening of the flowers can see them caught in arrangement frames and cannot open sufficiently to reflect the full beauty of the featured flowers.
As mentioned above, always keep flowers away from not only direct sunlight but also ripening fruits, which emit ethylene gas, a substance that causes buds to remain closed, petals to have poor color, and flowers to have a shortened vase life.
Simple Care Tips Of Flowers In An Arrangement
- Do not overcrowd the flowers in the container.
- Always check the water level in the container or vase and replenish it frequently.
- Blooms that have wilted should be discarded.

Roses Only Confirm Allure of Giving Flowers Lives On
Roses Only confirmed in an interview with 2006 Media that demand continues to be strong, and is growing, for the year-round gifting of flowers for all occasions.
Floral arranging and the gifting of flowers has been traced back to Egyptian times and now with the sending of flowers on Valentine’s and Mother’s Day by loved ones, through to them being gifted on birthdays and Christmas growing more popular by the year, the centuries old tradition is as strong and important today as it was in 2,500 BCE
Mr Anthony Rohde, Marketing Director of Roses Only in the interview with Melbourne based 2006 Media said, “It is pleasing to confirm that the trend of giving flowers is showing continuing strong year on year growth and is seen as the favoured way in 2019 to show every emotion from appreciation to one’s love for someone. The ease with which we allow residents across Australia to select and order delivered flowers via our online portal has been a real hit and we are seeing greater return customers, sometimes revisiting multiple times a year.”
Roses Only create a variety of floral designs for wreaths, bouquets and specialty arrangements. Their business has a significant market share in the corporate and social event world, as flowers are playing a larger part in the decor of special events and gatherings than even just a few years ago. Centerpieces, entryways, reception tables, and stage sets are just a few examples of how flowers are being used in these corporate and social settings.
2006 Media has observed that the growing demand being seen here in Australia is in line with flowers being so popular now in the United States as gifts and staging of corporate events that they are being imported from overseas to meet demand.
