Back in January I asked you when was the last time you sent a loved one a bunch of flowers out of the blue? Have you done it yet? My mantra for 2021 is a small gesture can truly make a big impact. And so far, so good. I haven’t forgotten about those big celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries but I am sneaking in a few surprises when someone I care about, admire or want to acknowledge is least expecting it.

And that brings me to International Women’s Day on March 8. Let’s face it, 2020 was tumultuous year for most but no doubt there is a special woman in your life who went over and above last year. Mum, colleague, best friend, partner, sister or daughter? I bet there is an incredible woman in your life so why not celebrate her with a surprise bouquet to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Pink Perfection from Kellie Hush x Roses Only collection

For over a century International Women's Day has been a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and in 2021 the campaign theme is Choose to Challenge. Which couldn’t be more poignant. From challenge comes change and the call to action globally is #choosetochallenge.

And if you want to stay on theme with your bouquet choice the key colours of IWD are purple, green and white. Purple signifying justice and dignity, green symbolising hope with white representing purity. And as a side note: US Vice President Kamala Harris, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former first lady Michelle Obama all wore purple to the inauguration in January as it is traditionally seen as not only a symbol of bipartisanship in the United States, but as a colour of the women's suffrage movement.

I challenge you again to make a small gesture with big impact in 2021 and on IWD celebrate the incredible women in your life. They won’t be expecting a bunch of flowers but I bet you they will be floored when they arrive.
